London, May 14 (Inditop.com) In sharp contrast to his sombre demeanour over the past few weeks, Gordon Brown cracked jokes and looked relaxed when he made his first public appearance after resigning as prime minister of Britain.
Brown, who was in his home constituency in Scotland Thursday afternoon, flashed a smile and hugged youths. He looked happy on being surrounded by students at the Adam Smith College.
He emerged from 24 hours of exile at his home in North Queensferry to visit the college, where he is chancellor, Daily Mail reported Friday.
Brown told hundreds of cheering students: “I’ve lost a few titles in the last few days.”
“But there is one title I didn’t lose – the one you honoured me with by making me your chancellor. It’s a huge pleasure to be here.”
That was not all.
“As I was coming in today I was thinking about taking one or two of the courses on offer. I thought I might make a start with communications. Then I considered public relations or perhaps media management. Then I could try drama and performance.”
He and his wife, Sarah, returned to their Scottish home Tuesday night.
Brown said that his new role in life will be to serve the people of his constituency Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath.
“I look forward to serving you in the months and years ahead,” he was quoted as telling the students.
Brown said: “I may have given up one job, but the job I love is to be your member of parliament. People are doing great things in this community and you judge a society by not what it does to strengthen the strong, but the weak.
“You judge it by what it does not to help the most secure, but the least secure. I want to expand that work in the community to build an even stronger one.”
His speech was received with thunderous ovation from the students.
