Melbourne, Feb 1 (IANS) Cricket Australia (CA) on Monday said that it expects skipper Aaron Finch to be fit for the World Twenty20 starting from March 8 after medical tests revealed that the batsman has suffered a “moderate grade” left hamstring injury.
Finch picked up the injury running between wickets in the second T20I International at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) last Friday night.
CA’s Sports Science and Sports Medicine Manager Alex Kountouris clarified that the 29-year-old’s recent injury is not a recurrence of the previous hamstring injury that required surgery in April 2015
“Although this current injury doesn’t require surgery there is a period of rehabilitation required before he can resume playing,” Kountouris said in a statement.
“We are aiming to have Aaron fit for the ICC World T20 in India but will have better idea about his fitness for that tournament in the coming weeks once we see how he responds to treatment and a rehabilitation programme.”
