London, April 22 (Inditop.com) A Briton, who was racked with guilt after stealing a cake as a schoolboy 50 years ago, decided to make amends by handing back a packet of the orange-flavoured cake to his stunned former boss.

John Bibby was 15 went he stole a packet of Jaffa Cakes while working at the Linzi Coffee Bar on a holiday camp in Skipsea, East Yorkshire. The incident took place in 1960, Daily Mail reported.

Bibby, now 65, drove nearly 50 miles from his home in York to own up to Les Simpson, who lives near Beverley, East Yorkshire.

“I was working there as a part-time summer job while still at school. I’ve always had a sweet tooth, I was hungry and thought I would have just one Jaffa Cake from a packet. But I ended up eating the whole lot and never told anybody about it.

“You forget so much over the years, yet this just stuck in my mind – I have never done anything like it before or since. I drove to see him and immediately said, `Les, I have something to confess’. I pulled out the pack of Jaffa Cakes and told him the story, the first time I have ever admitted what I did to anybody. It felt like a weight off my shoulders. This time I did not touch the cakes,” Bibby was quoted as saying.

Simpson said that he knew “nothing about it”.

“It’s 50 years ago. He didn’t need to worry about it, I mean what’s a packet of Jaffa Cakes? I don’t even like Jaffa Cakes. From the look on his face I think he thought I was going to tell him off after all these years. We ended up roaring with laughter about it.”
