Phnom Penh, Feb 3 (IANS) Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong on Wednesday said the country has no biased foreign policy towards any country.
“Though Cambodia is a small and poor country, it has independence and sovereignty. As a nation with its good morals, culture and civilization existing for thousands of years, we do not choose a country over another,” Xinhua quoted him as saying.
Namhong’s remarks came after some critics and analysts commented that Cambodia has closer ties with China than the US.
“I told US Secretary of State John Kerry during a recent meeting that Cambodia is a friend of China, but Cambodia also wants to be a close friend of the United States,” said Namhong, who is also deputy prime minister of the country.
As for relations with China and Japan, he said Cambodia does not prefer one to another because the two countries have the same level of comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation with Cambodia.
