London, Aug 26 (IANS) British Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha have named their new daughter Florence Rose Endellion, after a village close to which they were holidaying.

Camerons were holidaying near the village of St Endellion when Samantha felt the contractions and had to be rushed to the hospital.

The couple finally decided the name Wednesday afternoon while Samantha recovered from the birth in hospital, Daily Express reported Thursday.

The Camerons have received congratulatory messages from the Queen, the Prince of Wales, Gordon and Sarah Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

David spent the night with his wife at the Royal Cornwall hospital, where their daughter was delivered by caesarean section Tuesday. The baby arrived three weeks early.

The hospital’s director of nursing, Christine Rashleigh, said she hoped Samantha would spend as much time as possible with her baby before returning to the ‘cut and thrust of working and supporting the prime minister’.

David had earlier said: ‘It was very exciting – we thought we were going to get through the holiday and then have a baby, and then it just seemed to kick off a bit quickly.

‘We’re absolutely thrilled. She is an unbelievably beautiful girl and I’m a very proud dad.’

The Camerons already have a daughter, Nancy, six, and a four-year-old son, Arthur. Their first child, Ivan, who had cerebral palsy, died in February last year, aged six.
