Beijing, Feb 3 (IANS) China has distributed 20.7 billion yuan (about $3.3 billion) to over 87 million needy people across the country as part of a welfare program, the government said Friday.
The money was distributed Jan 21, two days before the Chinese Lunar New Year, Xinhua reported quoting an official statement. Urban residents covered by the minimum living standard program received 300 yuan (about $47) each, while rural residents received 200 yuan each.
