Beijing, April 1 (IANS) China has shut down more than 60 pornographic websites that also facilitated prostitution and nude video talks, officials said.

The targeted 62 websites were registered in 15 provinces and municipalities, the information office of the State Council said in a statement Thursday.

The crackdown was carried out as part of a special campaign launched in December 2009 to remove pornographic content from the internet, Xinhua reported.

‘Government agencies will make concerted efforts to attain a clean internet environment to facilitate healthy development of adolescents,’ the statement added.
