Beijing, Dec 31 (IANS) Ahead of the New Year holiday and the Spring Festival, the Chinese government has decided to take strong measures against companies breaking food safety regulations.
The government intends to ensure healthy New Year holiday and the Spring Festival falling in mid-February, China Daily reported.
An announcement Sunday by the food safety office under the State Council, or China’s cabinet, said authorities would implement harsher punishments for food producers if found making fake products and selling adulterated or expired food.
For this, the inspectors have been asked to intensify their efforts to ensure the safety of grain products, meat, infant food, alcoholic beverages and edible gifts during the holidays.
The Spring Festival is one of the most important traditional holidays in China and is likely to witness huge transaction volume in food trade, as people always arrange banquets to celebrate family reunion and entertain guests.
