Beijing, Sep 1 (Xinhua) China Tuesday urged the Myanmar junta to restore “order and stability” at their border following unrest that triggered mass exodus of Myanmarese into the Communist country.

“Safeguarding the stability of the China-Myanmar border is in line with the vital interests of both governments,” said Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu.

Referring to unrest in Myanmar’s Shan province bordering China, Jiang said: “We hope the situation will calm down as soon as possible and Myanmar border inhabitants who fled to China can return to their homeland at an early date.”

Some 37,000 Myanmarese have fled to China after fighting broke out Aug 8 between Myanmar Army and an ethnic minority group in the Laukkai area near the border.
