Copenhagen, Dec 18 (Inditop.com) Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva met here to exchange views on cooperation in dealing with global climate change.

Wen said that China and Brazil enjoyed broad consensus on international cooperation in tackling global climate change, Xinhua reported.

The two countries have been playing an important role in pushing forward the negotiating process at the Copenhagen summit by engaging in close communications and coordination with parties concerned to enhance mutual trust and broaden consensus, Wen said at the meeting Thursday.

The Chinese premier said that developed nations should give support to efforts by developing countries for sustainable development.

Lula, on his part, said that Brazil and China shared the same position on negotiations at the Copenhagen conference.

Both countries have taken active measures to deal with climate change, the Brazilian president added.

International cooperation in tackling climate change should follow the principle of “common but differentiated responsibilities” and developing countries should not be asked to do what is beyond their ability and development level, Lula said.

Brazil is willing to maintain close communications and coordination with the Chinese side to strengthen solidarity among developing countries and make joint efforts with all sides so that the Copenhagen conference will end with some achievements, the Brazilian president said.
