Bhopal, Oct 5 (Inditop.com) Police in Madhya Pradesh are planning to send a team to Nepal and Malaysia to ascertain the veracity of the story of a 27-year-old Pakistani man – arrested from the Chhindwara district for entering India on a false Nepali passport – who claimed he had come to search for his “wife”, police sources said Monday.

Mohammad Asghar Ali, 27, who has been identified as a resident of Chheena village near Lahore in Pakistan, told the police after his arrest Sep 29 that he sneaked into India via Nepal in search of his “wife”, 22-year-old dancer Ratna Soni.

Ali claimed that he and Soni had fallen in love during a show in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia in April last year and got married in Nepal a month later.

He claimed that she took around Rs.125,000 from him and came to India without informing him. He also said that she later asked him to come to India to take her with him.

“Ali, who was living in a Chhindwara hotel by the name of Inzima, since Sep 23, was also thrashed by the organisers of the dance show in Chhindwara Sep 27 when he tried to get close to the stage to meet Soni but he managed to escape with minor bruises,” a police officer said.

He was remanded to judicial custody by the district court after the period of his police remand ended Saturday. Officials say they would take him on remand again, if necessary, after verifying his credentials and collecting details from Nepal and Malaysia.

“So far, we don’t suspect his involvement in any anti-national affair. Still our investigation is on and now we are looking forward to send our team to Nepal to find the whereabouts of his passport and cross-check the details he has provided. We have already sought the permission of the police headquarters in this connection,” an investigating officer said.

However, Soni and her family have, however, denied having any relationship with Ali. They said Ali was chasing and harassing her for the last few months.

Meanwhile, the Chhindwara police have also informed Ali’s family about his arrest.

They run a small general store in Pakistan, said Sachin Atulkar, the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Chhindwara.
