Rio de Janeiro, July 5 (IANS) Brazil’s Corinthians won their first Copa Libertadores trophy with a 2-0 victory over Boca Juniors in the final’s deciding leg.

Veteran striker Emerson gave the home side the lead after 53 minutes at the Pacaembu Stadium Wednesday with a low finish after Danilo’s back-heel, reported Xinhua.
The 33-year-old scored his second 19 minutes later by pouncing on a miscued clearance before firing a low shot past goalkeeper Sebastian Soza.
The result gave Corinthians a 3-1 aggregate victory over the Buenos Aires outfit, which has won the competition six times.
Defender Leandro Castan, understood to be playing his last match for Corinthians after reportedly signing a four-year contract with Italy 92 SAS Roma, was overcome with emotion after the match.
“Words can’t describe how I’m feeling. I will sit down and talk with the club Friday but for now we’re going to celebrate because it’s been a long, tough road to get here.”
