Bangkok, March 7 (IANS) An application seeking to halt the deportation of Indian-origin businessman Satish Sehgal, one of the leaders of the anti-government protests in Thailand, was filed in a court here Friday.

The petition has been filed by Sawat Charoenphon, a lawyer for former Democrat MP Thavorn Senniam and core leader of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), the organisation leading the protests, to stop the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO) from deporting the businessman, the Bangkok Post reported.
The PDRC states that the CMPO cannot issue the deportation order as it violates a Civil Court rule stating that the CMPO cannot take any action against peaceful anti-government protesters under the emergency decree imposed on Bangkok and its surrounding areas.
Sehgal, a leading member of the PDRC, has also appealed to the Thai king against the deportation order.
