New Delhi, May 26 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Wednesday expressed concern over the quality of mid-day meals served in government schools in the capital.
A division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Madan B. Lokur pulled up the government for not taking proper care of children who fell ill after consuming contaminated food.
‘The government must monitor and should see that children must not fell ill after consuming food given to them,’ the court said.
Four students from the Government Girls Higher Secondary School near Darya Ganj were admitted to hospital May 6 with various symptoms after eating lunch under the mid-day meal scheme.
Najmi Waziri, counsel for the government, submitted that an NGO that supplied the food to the school was under suspension.
The court reserved its order for fixing the compensation amount to be paid to the children who were hospitalised for three days. The court was hearing a public interest petition.
