Rio de Janeiro, July 4 (IANS) Former Portugal international midfielder Deco said Clarence Seedorf’s arrival in Rio de Janeiro will change the world’s perception of Brazilian football.

Seedorf agreed to a two-year deal with Botafogo last Saturday after ending his 10-year spell at AC Milan in May, reported Xinhua.
Deco, who joined Botafogo’s Rio rival Fluminense in 2010 after a glittering career with Porto, Barcelona and Chelsea, lavished praise on the former Dutch international.
“He will make a difference, even in the eyes of other clubs,” Deco said after a Fluminense training session.
“It’s one thing when Brazilians come back and play here but we’re talking about someone who is a foreigner.
“Even though he has a link with Rio, he has come here and has already changed the way people view Brazilian football.”
Seedorf’s Rio connection is his wife Luviana, who was born in the city and is a lifelong Botafogo fan.
Deco said Seedorf was the ideal recruit, despite having already celebrated his 36th birthday.
“The difference will not only be felt on the pitch. He is intelligent and is a fantastic person. Seedorf is going to help Botafogo in so many ways.”
Deco, who first played against Seedorf in his days at Porto more than a decade ago, said he had utmost respect for the veteran playmaker.
“We have played against each other many times at club level and at the European championships,” Deco said.
“I like him a lot and have enormous respect for what he has achieved. It’s great to have him here. Congratulations to Botafogo for making the signing. I’d never have thought I would be playing against Clarence Seedorf in Rio de Janeiro.”
