Islamabad, Dec 30 (IANS) At least eight people were killed and 13 injured Friday evening in a powerful suicide bombing in a residential area in Pakistan’s Quetta city, media reports said.
The blast took place on Arbab Karam Khan Road near Raisani Chowk, Geo News reported.
The bombing in the capital city of Balochistan province occurred outside the house of the son of former federal minister Naseer Mengal.
A gun-battle between militants and police was also reported by witnesses.
Many houses caught fire after the blast, and police said the toll might rise.
An emergency was declared in the area after the blast, and firefighters were battling the flames.
Citing ARY news channel, Xinhua put the toll at one and the number of injured at 11.
Local media reports said the blast took place around 7 p.m. outside a house of a former chief minister of Balochistan.
Several houses and eight to 10 cars near were damaged in the explosion.
