Dhaka, Jan 31 (IANS) Hours after the disconnection of power, internet and cable connections have also been severed to former Bangladesh prime minster Khaleda Zia’s office here Saturday.
Khaleda’s Gulshan office staff found the cable network snapped when they turned on the TV around 9:00 a.m, a Bangladesh National Party (BNP) official said.
The internet connection was also severed since that time, the official told The Daily Star.
Earlier, the Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (Desco) had stopped power supply to the office.
After stopping the power supply, a Desco official said he cut BNP chief’s political office’s power line at around 2:42 a.m on instruction from top authorities of the Gulshan Police.
The actions came 11 hours after shipping minister Shajahan Khan threatened that water and electricity lines of Khaleda’s office will be disconnected if she did not withdraw blockade by Feb 2.
Khaleda has been staying in the office since Jan 3. A number of police vans, sand, bricks, cement carrying trucks, a water cannon and additional number of police were deployed in a bid to confine her.
Police, however, removed all the barriers and withdrew additional law enforcers Jan 18.
Meanwhile, Khaleda opted to remain at her office.
