Brussels, Feb 19 (IANS) The European Union Tuesday expressed its disappointment over postponement of the legal proceedings against two Italian marines — Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone — accused of killing two Indian fishermen.

“We are disappointed at the news that we received this morning that two years after this incident occurred the Supreme Court has once again decided to postpone on the law to be invoked in the case involving the two Italian marines,” EU’s spokesperson for foreign affairs Maja Kocijancic said during a news conference here.
“We understand that the case has been adjourned today and that the next hearing of the Supreme Court will be held next week on the 24th of February to decide wheather or not the anti-terror laws should be applied in this case,” she noted.
The spokesperson reiterated that the “use of the anti-terror law would be inappropriate in this case” and called on India to find a mutually-satisfactory solution as a matter of urgency.
The two marines are facing murder charges.
