Warsaw, Sep 3 (IANS) Foreign ministers of European Union countries are meeting in Poland to seek a unified position on Palestinian statehood for a UN vote later this month, Xinhua reported.

The informal two-day meeting of 27 ministers that began Friday in the Baltic Sea resort of Sopot is being chaired by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.

Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski is co-hosting the informal meeting on behalf of the Polish EU presidency.

Ashton said the EU has not formed a unified position over the Palestinian problem, and the purpose of this meeting was to discuss the issue, not making any decisions.

The ministers also discussed support for Libya after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi and the peace process in the Middle East.
