London, Jan 3 (IANS) Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton is likely to face an English Football Association (FA) charge after he accused Norwich player Bradley Johnson of ‘conning’ the referee into showing him a red card.
Barton was sent off in QPR’s 1-2 home defeat to Norwich City for an apparent head-butt on Johnson. Referee Neil Swarbrick deliberated with his assistant David Richardson before giving the Englishman his marching orders.
However, after the game Barton tweeted: ‘Well feel for the officials, they have been conned. They (the officials) admitted to me at halftime they never saw it.’
‘I was pulled back first, then kicked second. Linesman definitely never saw it, all he saw was Johnson’s reaction. My head does not move forward at all. Ridiculous decision, seen 25 replays, I would be first to apologise if I had reacted. Cannot apologise as I know I have not head-butted anyone.’
