Istanbul, July 2 (IANS) A Turkish court has convicted and sentenced Fenerbahce sports club president Aziz Yildirim to 75 months in prison on match-fixing charges.

The court Monday also convicted several other suspects, including former Giresunspor president Olgun Peker on similar charges, reported Xinhua.
However, the court released Yildirim and three other suspects considering the time they spent in jail over the past year. Turkish law allows the court to free suspects after they serve a certain period of their sentences.
Hundreds of Fenerbahce fans, who gathered outside the court house in Istanbul, greeted the decision with jubilation.
The ruling came two months after the Turkish football federation cleared all 16 Turkish teams of involvement in the alleged match-fixing scandal on grounds that there was no evidence.
