Warsaw, March 2 (IANS) A football friendly between Poland and Portugal at the National Stadium here — newly-built for the Euro 2012 championship in June — was incident-free, spokesman for the Polish National Police Headquarters Mariusz Sokolowski said.

This was the first soccer match played at the new National Stadium in Warsaw built before the Euro 2012 championship to be co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine in June.
Police treated the match Wednesday as a general security test before the Euro 2012 tournament. “We are satisfied with the course of the event. Inspite of a large number of people attending the event, there were no serious incidents, no one was detained. Several people had not been admitted to the stadium because they were drunk,” Sokolowski was quoted by Xinhua as saying Thursday.
An estimated 55,000 fans filled the 56,000-seat stadium.
In total, some 2,500 policemen took part in ensuring security before, during and after the match. Officers from Warsaw were supported by policemen from other Polish cities.
The match ended in a goalless draw.
