Geneva, Sep 30 (IANS) The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has distributed around 7,000 tonnes of monthly family food rations in the flood-affected region of Pakistan, Xinhua reported.

The family food rations have been given to about 490,000 people since the start of food distribution in mid-September, the WFP announced here Friday.

At least 5.4 million people have been affected by monsoon floods in Pakistan, out of which around 1.8 million are displaced.

All 23 districts in the southern province of Sindh have been reportedly affected.

Malnutrition level in the flooding area has reached alarming level.

The UN humanitarian agency plans to scale up deliveries in October to cover 2.55 million people across Sindh and Balochistan over next four months.
