Paris, Nov 15 (Inditop.com) France and Brazil have agreed on a policy to deal with climate change ahead of a UN summit on the subject in Copenhagen, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said.

“We want the Copenhagen to be a success, we won’t accept an abated accord,” Sarkozy said at a joint press conference with his visiting Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva Saturday.

Sarkozy said he will lobby for climate change when he would meet Danish Prime Minister Rasmussen at the Commonwealth Summit in Trinidad and Tobago Nov 27, Xinhua reported.

Brazil announced Friday it would reduce carbon emissions by 36.1 percent to 38.9 percent in 2020.

Sarkozy lauded Brazil’s active approach to the Copenhagen meeting and urged other countries to follow its example.

The Copenhagen summit, to be held in December, aims to reach a binding deal on cutting greenhouse gas emission before the Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012.
