Berlin, May 22 (IANS) Frankfurt have announced the signing of Werder Bremen legend Thomas Schaaf as coach of the German football club.
The former Bremen coach will be the successor of Armin Veh who resigned after the 2013/2014 season at “Eagles” to join league rivals Stuttgart, reports Xinhua.
Schaaf Wednesday put pen to paper on a two-year deal, which keeps him at Frankfurt until June 2016.
“I worked a long time at one club, now a new task opened up. I look forward and I am curious,” said Frankfurt’s new coach Thomas Schaaf.
Schaaf is a Bremen legend, who spent 14 years with the “Green-Whites” to lift a number of titles.
He won the Bundesliga title in 2004 and the German Cup title in 1999, 2004 and 2009. In addition, the 53-year-old coach led the team to the UEFA Cup semifinals in 2007 and to the final in 2009.
The “Eagles” completed the season in 13th position of the Bundesliga standings.
