Paris, May 29 (IANS) The French state secretary for civil service, accused of having sexually harassed two women, has resigned, Prime Minister Francois Fillon said in a statement Sunday.
‘Mr. Georges Tron today has informed Prime Minister Francois Fillon of his resignation from the government,’ Xinhua quoted the statement as saying.
Prosecutors have opened an inquiry after a lawyer of two female former staffers working under Tron filed sexual harassment complaints against him.
On Saturday, the accused minister denied all charges but said he did not want to be a burden to the government, and so was considering a resignation.
Another French national, the former chief of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Dominique Strauss-Kahn, has resigned over charges of attempted rape of a hotel maid in New York.
