Berlin, Aug 30 (IANS) Germany has no plans to join military actions against Syria, a government spokesman said Friday.
“We haven’t considered any German military participation and still aren’t doing so,” Xinhua reported quoting government spokesman Steffen Seibert.
Seibert said Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Barack Obama agreed during their phone call Thursday to continue close coordination on a possible international reaction to the alleged chemical attacks in Syria.
Meanwhile, Germany’s Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said Germany will not be in a military strike against the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad and the country had not been asked to participate in any such action.
“Such participation is neither been asked nor is it being considered by us,” Westerwelle told Neue Osnabruecker Zeitung newspaper.
“We urge the United Nations Security Council to find a common stance and that the work of the UN inspectors will be completed as quickly as possible,” he said.
