Abu Dhabi, Sep 30 (IANS/WAM) The UAE government and industry leaders need to identify challenges and arrive at solutions to reduce the cost of doing business, a prominent UAE daily has said.

In an editorial following a round-table hosted by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, the Gulf News noted that the leaders in the retail sector had said high operating costs were a drag on growth in the sector, despite the expansion of the economy of the emirate and its good business environment.

They listed the high cost of hiring staff, wages and rents as being among their concerns.

While the round-table dealt with challenges facing the retail sector, the concerns listed can apply to many other businesses, the paper added.

‘Many of the problems raised are not the responsibility of government’, asserted the paper. However, it insisted that where government can reduce bureaucracy and administrative costs, it must.
