Washington, Jan 2 (Inditop.com) Hand sanitizers are more effective than soap in checkmating bacterial and viral infections, a report says.

But the sanitizing gel should cover all surfaces of the hands, wrists, cuticles, fingernails and between the fingers and thumbs, says a Mayo clinic report.

Washing with soap and water is still important before eating, after using the toilet and when hands are dirty.

Once the hands are clean, avoid touching the tap, the report says. Hold a paper towel or use the tip of the wrist or an elbow to turn off the faucet.
