New Delhi, Jan 12 (Inditop.com) Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Tuesday invited India Inc to do business in her country, saying this would ensure trade balance between the neighbours.
“We need to have a trade balance between the two countries. We want Bangladesh to become a poverty-free country,” the Bangladesh premier said at an event organised by three leading industry bodies here.
She also called upon Indian investors and the government to boost economic ties.
“This will increase our purchasing power,” Hasina said at the event organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Bangladesh’s economy relies heavily on exports of garments, though the sector has been hit by the global slowdown and increased competition.
India Monday announced a $1-billion credit for Bangladesh, the highest to any country by it. The credit is aimed at developing infrastructure and will include building railway bridges, supplying locomotives and assistance in dredging.
