Hong Kong, Dec 29 (DPA) Hong Kong’s main airline Cathay Pacific Wednesday apologised to passengers stuck on planes for up to 11 hours at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York because of snow storms.
Five incoming Cathay Pacific flights have been unable to disembark for periods ranging from four to 11 hours since Monday, prevented from getting to the gates by the severe weather.
A spokesman for the airline said, ‘We are particularly sorry for the great inconvenience that more than 1,100 passengers have suffered throughout their long wait inside our aircraft on the tarmac.
‘We are actively reviewing everything that led to this unfortunate situation so that we can work to prevent a recurrence in the future.’
Thousands more Cathay Pacific passengers have had to wait inside the airport for up to 30 hours before boarding flights to Hong Kong since the snow storms hit New York.
Two flights were due back in Hong Kong Wednesday after delays of 42 and 26 hours, with some passengers reportedly complaining about a lack of information from airline staff.
The Cathay Pacific spokesman said it expected its services to return to normal gradually over the next two days as conditions at the New York airport improved.
