Hong Kong, Jan 29 (DPA) A Hong Kong woman was tricked out of 1.5 million Hong Kong dollars ($190,000) and duped into sex by a man believed to be part of syndicate of mainland Chinese conmen posing as Taoist masters, a court report said Friday.
Deng Qianxiang, 44, told his victim she would receive a cash gift from heaven of 130 million dollars if she paid him money and followed instructions which included having sex with him and one of his disciplines on nine occasions.
Deng said the money would cover the cost of buying sacred objects and building altars, while the sex would help her accumulate spiritual energy.
Deng pleaded guilty Thursday to one charge of conspiracy to defraud the woman, a 47-year-old unmarried clerk.
A report in the South China Morning Post said police believed the woman was one of around 30 victims of a syndicate of mainland Chinese crooks who swindled cash by staging phoney Taoist religious ceremonies.
Two men, suspected of being Deng’s accomplices, are still at large.
The judge adjourned sentencing until next month to allow for the preparation of a psychological report on Deng.
Taoism is an ancient Chinese tradition of philosophy and religious belief that promotes living a lifestyle in harmony with nature, pursuit of spiritual immortality, and ancestral worship.
