Washington, Sep 11 (Inditop.com) As the US prepared to observe the eighth anniversary of the terror attacks on the World Trade Center and elsewhere, Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram said he was “quite impressed” by what the US has done to counter terror and some of its practices can be applied to Indian cities.
“I was quite impressed with what they have done (after 9/11). Some of the practices can be applied to India’s mega-cities like Delhi, Mumbai, etc.,” Chidambaram told Indian journalists as he rounded up his visit to New York and Washington, that included a meeting Thurday with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Chidambaram said he has learnt valuable security tips from the New York Police Department (NYPD) and will implement them in securing India’s mega-cities against terrorist attacks.
Expressing satisfaction with his talks with American leaders on counter-terrorism and intelligence-sharing, Chidambaram said the US shares India’s concern about its security.
He said: “I am pleased with the level of interest shown by the officials and leaders of the US administration. I have requested them for closer cooperation (in security matters).”
Chidambaram said he briefed them on the progress made by India in the trial of the arrested terrorist Ajmal Kasab, the lone survivor of the Mumbai attackers, and Pakistan’s reluctance to take any action against five or six they had arrested and releasing of terror mastermind Hafiz Saeed.
Asked whether he requested US leaders to pressure Pakistan to take action against the arrested terrorists, he said the American administration “understands the difference between the way India approached the post 26/11 situation, and the way Pakistan has approached”.
Questioned whether he gave them a fresh dossier on Pakistan’s role in the terror attacks, the home minister countered: “The dossier has already been shared with many countries, including the US and the countries whose citizens have been killed in Mumbai.
“Even the sixth dossier has been shared with 16 countries, including the US.”
