Islamabad, July 28 (IANS) The India-Pakistan talks were splashed across front pages of most Pakistani newspapers Thursday, some amused by the keen interest Indians took in Pakistan’s young woman foreign minister.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar held talks with her Indian counterpart S.M. Krishna in New Delhi Wednesday.
The respected Dawn gave prominent display to the talks with a report headlined: ‘Pakistan, India revive search for enduring dialogue process.’
It cited the joint statement to say that the two countries had agreed that terrorism threatened peace and security and reiterated their ‘firm and undiluted commitment’ to fight it.
The Daily Times noted that the bilateral relationship was back on track — after a long gap triggered by the suspension of talks after Pakistani terrorists ravaged Mumbai in November 2008.
The Pakistani media said the tone of the Khar-Krishna meeting betrayed forward-looking optimism that acknowledged a joint responsibility to bring stability to South Asia.
It said the pre-talks atmosphere had been soured by Khar’s decision to meet separatist leaders from Jammu and Kashmir.
In its story ‘India willing to talk Kashmir’, The Nation said the two ministers discussed Kashmir, counter-terror measures including progress in the Mumbai attack trial in Pakistan, commercial and economic cooperation, and disputes including Sir Creek and Siachen.
Geo News web site did not display the foreign ministers talks on its first page but had a story on Khar creating a media stir in India.
It said Khar won over the hearts of the Indian media.
An Indian tabloid said the 34-year-old minister scored full marks on the fashion front. She was spotted at the Delhi airport in a monotone outfit of blue — ‘the colour of the season’.
‘Tasteful accessories — Roberto Cavalli sunglasses, oversized Hermes Birkin bag and classic pearl jewellery — added a hint of glamour to her look,’ the Indian report said.
Geo News carried a small story on Khar’s meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was born in present day Pakistan.
The News International website too had a story on the media stir in India on Khar, Pakistan’s first woman foreign minister.
There was no commentary or editorial in these papers. Some carried stories from international news agencies.
