Madrid, Feb 28 (IANS) Spain striker Alvaro Negredo was forced to pull out of his country’s football squad for their friendly game at home against Venezuela after suffering a tear in his left thigh.
The striker will leave the training camp at the Spanish Federation’s Las Rozas headquarters Tuesday to return to Seville in order to continue his treatment. Depending on the extent of the tear, he is likely to be out of action for between two and four weeks, Xinhua reported.
Negredo was one of four strikers including Fernando Llorente, Iker Muniain and Roberto Soldado, who were called up by Spain coach Vicente del Bosque for Wednesday night’s match in Malaga.
The major shock in Del Bosque’s squad was the decision to leave out Fernando Torres, who has made over 90 appearances for his country. Torres has struggled for form with his English club Chelsea this season and has not scored in over 20 hours football.
Despite Negredo’s injury Del Bosque will not call any other players into his squad, meaning Llorente and Soldado are almost certain to start Wednesday.
