Gaza, Jan 3 (IANS) Israeli F16 fighter jets carried out several raids in the Gaza Strip early Friday after Palestinian militants fired a rocket into southern Israel, witnesses and security sources said.
The air strikes targetted militant training sites and open spaces in the middle and north of the coastal enclave started just after midnight. There were no immediate reports of casualties among Palestinians, Xinhua reported.
On Thursday night, a missile fired from Gaza landed in an open area in Israel’s Negev Regional Council, Israeli media reported. No damage or injuries were reported.
No Palestinian group claimed responsibility for the rocket attack, as Islamic Hamas movement, which controls Gaza, has been observing a shaky, fragile ceasefire with Israel for more than a year.
The rocket attack came hours after Israeli forces stationed on Gaza/Israel fence shot and wounded a Palestinian teenager on approaching the fence.
