Manaus (Brazil), June 15 (IANS/EFE) England captain Steven Gerrard lamented his side’s 1-2 loss to Italy in a Group D match of the World Cup, saying that it was hugely disappointing.
“We knew how Italy were going to play. They never surprised us really but it’s disappointing because we put so much into it and we’ve come away with nothing,” the 34-year-old midfielder said Saturday, reports EFE.
“The chances were there. Maybe we have got to look at finishing a few chances off but we can’t point any fingers because everyone’s given everything they’ve got. The effort, the desire was there. Maybe a bit of quality in the final third was missing. We played most of the game in their half in the second half, which is a huge positive.”
England will next take on Uruguay Thursday.
