Chengdu, April 22 (IANS) India’s Jeev Milkha Singh moved into tied second place with a second successive round of six-under 66 and was only one shot behind the leader Jamie Donaldson after two rounds at the Volvo China Open.
Jeev was 12-under in a tournament at the Luxehills International Country Club where birdies came in plenty. Jeev last won the tournament in 2008 and has been struggling with injuries for last two years.
Among other Indians, Shiv Kapur was tied 47th at six-under but SSP Chowrasia missed the cut with rounds of 70 and 71.
Donaldson went on a birdie spree with 11 birdies and he had no bogeys in his 11-under 61 as he zoomed from tied 58th to the very top. Jeev was tied with six others, South African Keith Horne, Dane Jeppe Huldahl, Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts, Frenchman Gregory Havret, Northern Ireland’s Gareth Maybin and Irishman Peter Lawrie.
Jeev started with a birdie on first and followed that with a bogey on the third. Jeev landed an second eagle at the par-5 seventh hole and a birdie on eighth saw him turn in three-under 33. On the back nine, he bogeyed the 12th, but had three birdies in a row from 13th to 16th before closing with a birdie on the 18th.
