Bogota, May 2 (Inditop.com/EFE) Colombian journalist Oscar Rubio Cardenas was murdered in his apartment in downtown Bogota, apparently by two people attempting to rob him, officials said.

The body of the journalist, 75, was found in an apartment in downtown Bogota with signs of suffocation and knife wounds.

Preliminary investigations by the police established that two people entered his home minutes before the murder, though the motives and perpetrators of the crime have not been fully established.

The leading hypothesis the authorities are concentrating on is that this was a robbery Friday night.

Rubio Cardenas was a journalist, poet and writer born in April 1935 in the city of Manizales and was the promoter of a cultural and educational movement known as Las Trece Pipas (The 13 Pipes), which sought to teach poetry to young people of that town.

The journalist had been the director of the RCN radio station in the cities of Tunja, Santa Marta and Barranquilla, as well as being a reporter for Bogota’s El Espacio daily.

Most recently, he had been a columnist for the Manizales daily La Patria.
