Beijing, June 18 (IANS) Around 50 journalists from 30 countries Monday attended a training programme in Beijing on the safety of reporters working in hostile conditions like war, conflicts, plague and natural disasters.

The training programme, organised by the World Media Summit Secretariat, focused on practical strategies for journalists in hostile environment, Xinhua reported.
Senior professionals from WMS Secretariat members — Xinhua, Itar-Tass, BBC, CNN, News Corporation and Al Jazeera — delivered lectures.
Zhou Zongmin, secretary-general of the WMS Secretariat, said journalism was one of the most dangerous businesses in the world, and thus the safety of reporters was a daunting challenge.
According to the International Federation of Journalists, a total of 2,270 media professionals have been killed in action since 1990.
The World Media Summit, launched by nine media organisations, was first held in Beijing in October 2009.
