Sao Paulo, March 19 (IANS/EFE) US supermodel Karlie Kloss is the big star of the latest edition of Sao Paulo Fashion Week, a showcase for Brazil’s leading designers to display their Spring/Summer 2014 collections.
Kloss, a Victoria’s Secret Angel, is one of the models who will walk the runway for Brazilian fashion brand Animale.
A total of 25 designers will share the catwalk at SPFW through Friday at Ibirapuera Park, regarded as the metropolis’ green lung.
Those natural surroundings inspired the event’s decorators, brothers Humberto and Fernando Campana, who also decided to endow the Bienal building housing the show with elements from nature.
The Campanas decorated the building with cactus in a nod to Brazil’s arid northeast and covered the building’s columns with dry palm fronds, which after the fashion show are to be used for roof coverings or brooms, organizers said.
Besides Animale, well-known Brazilian brands such as Cavalera, Ellus, Alexandre Herchcovitch, Osklen and Colcci will present their new designs at the SPFW.
Other top models that will grace the catwalk include the face of Versace’s Vanitas fragrance, American Lindsey Wixon, who will walk the runway for the Ellus fashion brand on Tuesday, the second day of the event.
This latest edition of the SPFW was moved up by three months from its traditional June slot to give designers more time to get their clothing to stores ahead of the next Southern Hemisphere summer.
