Nairobi, Jan 9 (IANS) Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has started its search for a new head coach as the country once again seeks a route back to winning ways after being knocked out of the 2014 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) last weekend.
Federation boss, Sam Nyamweya, announced Wednesday that James Nandwa, who has been in charge temporarily since Frenchman Henri Michel quit in December 2012 would continue as an assistant to the new man.
“FKF is in the process of identifying a professional coach to take over the management of the national team’s technical bench. Nandwa who has been handling the team on acting capacity remains the assistant coach and we are happy with his performance so far,” Nyamweya said in a statement.
In an apparent dig at the five-time World Cup veteran Michel who quit the team after a contractual dispute, the Nyamweya added, “We want a coach who will be ready to work with the team without looking down on some tournaments as happened with Michel. As a federation, we are very disappointed with Michel.”
The Frenchman who led France, Cameroon, Tunisia, Morocco and Ivory Coast to the World Cup between 1986 and 2006 declined to take charge of the side for the regional East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup in Uganda where Kenya, under Nandwa made in to the final for the first time in five years.
