New York, Aug 31 (IANS) The Free Speech Coalition, a California-based group representing the adult film industry, has called for temporarily halting porn film production in Los Angeles after an actor was tested positive for HIV.
The case is the first to be reported since three performers contracted HIV in 2013, the LA Times reported.
“There was a positive test at one of our testing centres. Confirmatory tests are not yet back, but we are taking every precaution to protect performers and to determine if there’s been any threat to the performer pool,” Diane Duke, CEO of the Free Speech Coalition, was quoted as saying.
“We take the health of our performers very seriously and felt that it was better to err on the side of caution,” Duke added.
While the group’s moratorium is not legally binding, the industry generally complies with its requests.
Last year, the group called a week-long stoppage after two porn actors were tested positive for the virus. A second moratorium was issued after a third performer tested HIV positive.
