Birmingham, March 9 (IANS) Malaysian World No.1 Lee Chong Wei and Chinese World No.3 Shixian Wang clinched the men’s and women’s singles titles, respectively, of the $400,000 All England Open Badminton Championships at the National Indoor Arena here Sunday.
Top seed Lee took sweet revenge of his last year’s loss in the final by beating China’s World No.2 and second seed Chen Long 21-13, 21-18 in a little less than an hour.
The two-time Olympic silver medallist won his third title here and with this triumph, Lee also broke Long’s four-match win streak against him to equal their career record to 8-all.
Earlier, World No.3 Shixian, who is seeing a resurgence of her old form in 2014, also broke a four-match victorious run of World No.1 compatriot Li Xuerui over her to clinch her second All England crown.
The fourth seeded Shixian beat reigning Olympic champion Li 21-19, 21-18 in 50 minutes to better her head-to-head to 3-4.
