Rio de Janeiro, Feb 13 (IANS) Colombian striker Franco Arizala scored a 68th-minute winner as Mexico’s Leon defeated 10-man Flamengo 2-1 in their opening Copa Libertadores group match.
Flamengo were handicapped from the 12th minute at Leon stadium Wednesday after midfielder Amaral was shown a straight red card for a heavy challenge on Luis Montes, reports Xinhua.
Argentine Mauro Boselli opened the scoring on the half hour mark for the hosts before Paraguay international Victor Caceres equalised on the stroke of halftime.
Arizala then restored Leon’s lead by firing in connecting a corner-kick.
In other matches, Deportivo Anzoategui drew 1-1 with Penarol, Real Garcilaso defeated Cruzeiro 2-1 while Deportivo Cali overcame Cerro Porteno 1-0.
