Berlin, Nov 8 (IANS) German football club Bayer Leverkusen have extended defender Emir Spahic’s contract until June 2016.
The former Bosnian and Herzegovina captain put pen to paper on a one-year extension to stay with the Bundesliga side until June 2016, reports Xinhua.
“In Leverkusen I am part of an exciting and ambitious team. I believe that we can achieve a lot. I feel comfortable in here and want to help the young team with my experience,” the 34-year-old defender told the club’s official homepage.
Spahic joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2013 making 30 appearance with three goals to his name. He also won 77 caps for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Emir was and is an absolute top performer who gives the team stability and security. His technical skills, his duel strength and the confidence he exudes makes him very valuable for us,” Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller said.
Leverkusen occupy fifth position in the Bundesliga standings, with an eight point gap to front runners Bayern Munich.
