Jakarta, Dec 1 (IANS) A 6.7-magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia’s Maluku islands Sunday, the country’s Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency reported. There was, however, no immediate report of any casualty or damage to property.
The quake, which struck at 8.24 a.m, had its epicentre 250 km from Kepulauan Baratdaya Regency, Maluku province, 367 km from Maluku’s capital Ambon. It had a depth of 40 km under the sea, Xinhua reported.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake measured 6.3 on the a Richter scale.
There was no potential of the quake generating a tsunami, the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics added.
