The Hague (The Netherlands), July 1 (IANS) Adam Maher will join PSV Eindhoven from AZ Alkmaar for an undisclosed fee, both clubs have announced.
The 19-year-old midfielder Maher will sign a five-year contract if he passes the medical examination and the details of Sunday’s deal are finalised. His contract at AZ ran until mid-2015, Xinhua reports.
Maher is one of the biggest talents in Dutch football. He played 66 league matches for AZ, in which he scored 12 times. In May, he led AZ to a 2-1 win over PSV in the Dutch Cup final, scoring the first goal. Maher has so far played four matches for the Dutch national team.
PSV were already interested in signing Maher last year and also in January this year, but at that time PSV did not make official bids. Maher had already indicated he was ready for a new challenge in the Netherlands, with PSV and Ajax as only options for him. Ten days ago Ajax declared they would no longer try to lure Maher from AZ.
Maher is the third signing for PSV after defender Jeffrey Bruma (Chelsea) and Florian Jozefzoon (RKC Waalwijk). PSV sold defender Pieters to Stoke City, Dries Mertens to Napoli and Jeremain Lens to Dynamo Kiev.
