Washington, Dec 31 (DPA) A Florida man has been arrested for calling the police emergency line and claiming he was being assaulted and shot at, hoping it would lead to a ride to a bar, authorities said Wednesday.

Gregory Oras, 37, allegedly told a 911 emergency dispatcher early Tuesday morning that he had been injured, Cecilia Barreda, a spokeswoman for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed.

When deputies arrived at the scene they determined he had not been hurt and that the man actually wanted a lift to a bar, she said. He also appeared to be intoxicated, she said.

Oras was charged with misusing the 911 call system and battery for assaulting a deputy, Berreda said. He was subdued with a Taser and remains in custody, she added.
