Beijing, May 1 (IANS) A man has been detained in Chinese metropolis Shanghai for making a hoax bomb threat to the city’s international airport, police said.
The suspect, surnamed Pu, called the Pudong International Airport Friday, and said a bomb had been planted on a plane, the Shanghai Daily reported Tuesday.
Passengers were taken off the flight, which had landed from Japan’s Nagoya city. It was due to take off for Sichuan province capital Chengdu.
Passengers said they were escorted by police to the terminal building. They initially believed some passengers had taken contraband substance onboard.
All passengers went through a new security check. Police searched the plane but found no bomb. The plane took off after a delay of five hours.
Police said the suspect admitted making the call, intending to blackmail the airport into giving him money.
